Iowa Permit to Carry

Midwest Shooting’s Iowa Permit to Carry class is the Cedar Rapids area’s most comprehensive permit to carry class.  Classroom instruction is reinforced with training in our use of force simulator.  Students will learn the mindset, responsibilities, and legalities of carrying a firearm.  This Iowa Permit to Carry class satisfies the training requirement specified in Iowa Code 724.9.

The Iowa Permit to Carry class is 3.5 hours.  Students learn:

  • Mindset
  • Use of reasonable and deadly force laws
  • Consequences of using your firearm
  • Where/What/When you can and can not legally carry
  • Iowa Permit to Carry reciprocity with other states

The classroom instruction is augmented with training in our use of force simulator.  Students are confronted with realistic, real-life scenarios.  The student volunteers will need to decide to shoot/don’t shoot.  If ‘shoot’, they will then need to deploy and fire their firearm at the target.  The class then reviews the results of the encounter.  The class will see first hand how the speed of encounters and effects of stress impact performance.  This is a unique experience and students leave the class with a different perspective than prior to taking the class.

There are no prerequisites.  Students must be 21 years old or older or be within 30 days of their 21st birthday.
