Registration: Prospective students will need to call or stop by Midwest Shooting, Inc at 1490 Ketelsen Drive, Hiawatha, IA 52233 to register for the training class. Students will be required to sign a liability waiver. Full payment is required to hold a spot in the class. Any cancellations must be made no later than 72 hours prior to the course date. No refunds are available; but students may reschedule the course for another date.

Pull The Trigger – Introduction to Handguns – MWS 110

Objectives: Teach the basic safety and skills needed for operating a handgun.

Prerequisites: None.  This is geared towards new handguns shooters.

Age Requirements: Students must be at least 14 years old.  Students under the age of 21 must be accompanied by someone 21 years old or older.

Cost: $69.99 plus tax per person.

This price includes the cost of course materials, simulator fees, range fees, targets, and use of rental handguns.

Required Items: Students should bring ear/eye protection.   Students will be required to purchase ammunition for the firearm(s) selected if using rental guns.  Students wishing to fire their own handguns may bring their guns and ammunition.  Ear/eye protection and ammunition are available for purchase.

Iowa Permit to Carry – MWS 120

Objectives:  To satisfy the training requirement necessary to obtain an Iowa Non Professional Permit to Carry Weapons.

Course Description: The Students learn the basic information necessary to legally carry a firearm in Iowa.  Use of reasonable force, deadly force, offensive weapons, and dangerous weapons are discussed.  Students learn where carrying weapons is permitted and where they are prohibited.  These skills are reinforced by participating in real-life scenarios on our state-of-the-art Use of Force Simulator. A shooting qualification is optional.

Prerequisites: None

Age Requirements: Students must be 21 years old or older, or be within 30 days of their 21st birthday.

Cost: $69.99 plus tax per person.

Required Items: Valid government photo ID.

Intermediate CCW– MWS 230

Objectives:  Teach students to safely draw their firearm from a holster, present to a target, and re-holster the firearm.

Course Description: This is a live fire course. This course will give students the experience of drawing his/her firearm from concealment and shooting it during multiple scenarios. Basic drawing from a hip holster will be reviewed and practiced; then students will be introduced to new skills. Emphasis will be placed on the skill to safely draw a gun that is concealed. Students are encouraged to bring a variety of outer clothing: light jacket, heavy jacket, sweatshirt, blouse, as well as bags or anything else students might use to conceal their firearm.

Prerequisites: Must have current Iowa Permit to Carry. Must be able to demonstrate safe handling skills.

Age Requirements: Students must be 21 years old or older.

Cost: $79.99 plus tax per person.

Required Items:Student must have eye and ear protection. Any caliber double-action revolver or single action/double-action semi-auto pistol. Students gun must be in good working order. Student must have a strong side hip holster. Holster opening must not be collapsible. Other holster types are encouraged but optional. Please wear a sturdy belt that fits your pants belt loops and a holster that fits your belt size. Holster must cover the trigger guard. Students will need to bring/purchase 200 rounds of ammunition.

Youth Long Gun Safety and Familiarization – MWS 101

Objectives: Teach the basic safety and skills needed for operating a long gun.

Course Description:  Students will learn the fundamentals of handling rifles and shotguns safely.  Students will be taught basic firearm nomenclature, safe handling and operation, proper ammunition selection, and proper shooting holds/stances.  The class will then move to our indoor range where students will have the opportunity to fire rimfire rifles, centerfire rifles, and shotguns.

Prerequisites: None.  

Age Requirements: Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian 21 years old or older.

Cost: $10 plus tax per youth (adult guardian is free).

Required Items: Students should bring ear/eye protection.  Ear/eye protection are available for purchase.

 

NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation

Objectives: Teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for safely owning and operating a pistol.

Course Description: Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.

Prerequisites: None.  This is geared towards new handguns shooters.

Age Requirements: Students must be at least 14 years old.  Students under the age of 21 must be accompanied by someone 21 years old or older.

NRA Basic Pistol

Objectives: Teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for safely owning and operating a pistol.

Course Description:Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will participate in both classroom training and range training activities. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook.

Prerequisites: None

Age Requirements: Students must be at least 14 years old.  Students under the age of 21 must be accompanied by someone 21 years old or older.

Cost: $149.99 plus tax per person.

This price includes the cost of course materials, range fees, use of rimfire handguns, and .22LR ammunition. Lunch will be provided.

Required Items: Students should bring ear and eye protection. Students wishing to fire their own handguns must bring their guns and at least 20 rounds of target ammunition.
